Unequal Treatment

If I was in the workplace and I noticed inconsistencies in the way my boss or supervisor was treating me, I would try and discover the reason. Many people I feel go the wrong way about handling unfairness in the work place. There are many times reasons for this unequal treatment. I see it all the time in school where certain students will be graded harder or easier simply based off the bias of the teacher. Whether it be because the teacher doesn't like the student, or vice versa, or even that the teacher holds a student more accountable than others because they expect more, there is always a reason for different treatment. If my boss was treating me differently i would seek to have a conversation with them to figure out their reasons. For all I know there may be a very good reason that I am being treated differently, however if I realize that it is immoral, then I can take the appropriate measures to solve the issue.

  1. Soren, it is amazing how human behavior affects workplace relations. I appreciate your examples of how teachers can even have different expectations because the arena of "school, including college" is the pre-arena for employment. Objective behavior can be obvious, and if it leads to unfairness or unacceptable treatment, then the recipient must do something. The type of behavior you have described happens everywhere in all types of settings. Sometimes the employees feel like there isn't anything they can do to change their situations because of the fact that they must continue to "bring home their paychecks". This is happening right here at our school, teacher's are leaving and retiring because of what you just described.
