Post #3 My Future Career Interests

My Future Career Interests

“What are you planning on doing in life?” Since sixth grade I have been regularly asked this question. Whether it was from a teacher, an aunt, or one of my parent’s friends, I could not seem to go long without having to answer it. When I was younger I would always struggle to come up with something appropriate to say. However, it really annoyed me when they would ask me specific questions about the line of work I responded to. How was I supposed to know as a twelve year old what I wanted to do for the rest of my life? I wasn’t even sure what high school I was going to. Eventually by my sophomore year, I began sticking with a reliable response that would give me the least amount of explaining to do. I settled on either saying a physical therapist, or a chemist. Physical therapist was easy to explain, because I liked sports, and because I enjoyed learning about the human body. A chemist was simple, because I could just say I enjoyed chemistry and have always thought it would be cool to mix chemicals and create new things. Well I am headed off to college now, and I still have no idea what I am going to do with my life. I am not worried, because I am sure that whatever career I will go into, will be one that I enjoy. Once I am older and have everything figured out, I will make sure and not be the person who badgers young kids about making decisions about their future.

  1. Soren, I am glad that you have the outlook about your future that you have. The problem with adults is that we measure you based on our own experiences. Today's world is a lot different especially with the entrepreneurialism of today. There is nothing wrong with planning for your future, the key factor is to realize that career choices or jobs will more than likely change too. Congratulations to you! Go Gauchos :)
